OTHER AUTHORS ON SCOUT MEDIA:
When a mix of ideas and influences with no common theme or spirit, apart from one of desperation, becomes one of the most well-known bands of the 90s ...
Mike Edwards is the singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter for the British alternative-rock band, Jesus Jones. Among having multiple chart-topping hits, releasing several albums throughout the last three decades, and being awarded Best New Band at the MTV Music Awards in 1991, Jesus Jones are widely known for their international hit, “Right Here, Right Now.” Jesus Jones continues to tour and record, now with a renewed vigor after being able to control their own destiny, freed from the grips of major labels. Mike's debut novel, Death Threats from an Eight-Year-Old, chronicles how fast a band that is number one everywhere in the world can plummet from the good graces of the press, labels, radio, MTV, and even so-called diehard fans. A true introspective about the cutthroat music business told through the eyes and words of a man who experienced fronting one of the most well-known bands of their time, to finding his band label-less and shunned in a blink of an eye.
One hundred sixty shows, two rushed recording sessions, a reunion with an old band, and a Hail Mary shot at a comeback represent the tip of the iceberg of my twenty-year journey with Chuck Mosley.
Chuck (Faith No More, Bad Brains, Cement) toured the globe as a vocalist, appeared on magazine covers, rubbed elbows with idols, and, through it all, he remained 100% convinced he didn't deserve your praise. Yet, he desired acceptance more than almost anything else. A self-proclaimed “junkie and a liar,” Chuck shot himself in the foot over and over by shooting up elsewhere on his body. Meanwhile, I stumbled and fumbled and pushed and pulled and scraped and cried and begged and borrowed to earn him extra chances to prove himself. We loaded a van with a guitar, a conga, and an unfinished legacy hoping to reintroduce the world to Chuck Mosley.
- Jonathan Davis of Korn: “I was blown away by his voice. So original. Chuck has a great style that you can tell it’s him as soon as he starts singing. I’m a big fan and I was honored when he asked me to appear on his new stuff.”
- DMC of RUN-DMC: “Some of Chuck’s and Faith No More’s songs sound like we all come from the same family! He tore shit up!!!!”
- Matt Wallace, producer (Faith No More, Maroon 5, The Replacements): “I was always a fan of his ... He wore his heart on his sleeve ... I thought he was pretty fearless to sing about some of the things he sang about.”
“Networking is key. Stop worrying about protecting your little circle or clique and start realizing that whatever you put out there comes back to you. Think small, stay small. Expand your circle as much as you can. The more you help and do for others, the more you find success in more ways than one, also from within. It’s a simple concept, but so many people do not see or understand this. The world would be a better place if we did and acted this way all together and every day.” - Opus
Break When I'm Dead chronicles Opus and his trials and tribulations through touring, recording, and writing music with his band, Dead by Wednesday, as well as his stint as a reality show star and the journey of being a father through an uncertain era of politics and a pandemic. Journey along with Opus to discover some of his unusual life and personal events, as well as a shocking family tree.
In Honey-Spring Forest, Poof and Snoofin are best of friends. But when Sinister Wolf steals Poof to turn the little lamb into his next feast, Snoofin the Bear must understand the true meaning of friendship to find the courage to save Poof ... before it’s too late.
Poof and Snoofin is a tale devised by critically acclaimed musician Todd Smith (Dog Fashion Disco, Polkadot Cadaver, E-Creepo!, Knives Out, Beyond Paranoid, The Alter Boys) to help teach children to be brave and stand up for what they believe in—especially when the ones you love are at stake!
